Day 5: Seed Classification | SHANTU Archive

Today, our group met at Xinzhuang Elementary School to classify the seeds we found at Xinzhuang Sports Park. Before we began today’s session, Teacher Lydia helped our team review the new vocabulary they learned at the park. Then, one of Xinzhuang’s teachers introduced the names of the seeds we collected. We helped our little friends write the Chinese and Latin scientific names of each plant on a seed classification list, and then we gathered our seeds into a small bag.

Our Healthy Helpers set aside their favorite seed from Xinzhuang Sports Park and planted it in a flower pot. We taught each team’s gardening leader how to water the plants. Our little friends had a lot of fun helping our seeds grow into sprouts. We are hoping that today’s fun activity taught our Healthy Helpers that it is important to care for our environment, and we hope our summer camp will inspire a passion for sustainability in Xinzhuang’s students for years to come.
