Day 4: Seed Collection Day | SHANTU Archive

Today, we went on our first summer camp field trip! Our team walked over to the Xinzhuang Sports Park, where our 4 groups of campers (the Guava Group, Sweet Potato Leaf Squad, Passion Fruit Pals, and Pineapple Posse)  traveled to 4 different stations to search for seeds. At each station, our station leaders helped teach us new words about nature and parks with videos and fun games. Then, SHANTU members, parent volunteers, and Principal Chang helped our little friends look for seeds in the area surrounding each station.

We were amazed by the diversity of seeds in each location! Teacher Hien led the first station, where we found small, round, brown seeds. The group I helped lead then moved to Teacher Jo’s staton. At her station, we found beautiful flowers and small pink seeds. Our little friends had fun playing on the slides during the break for this station. We traveled to Teacher Kimron’s station, where we learned about branches and even got to see a broom made from bamboo branches. At this station, we found more flowers. Finally, we visited Teacher Linh’s station. Teacher Linh created a fun game for us to learn new vocabulary words. Then, we found beige, flat, large seeds.

We all were so happy to explore our environment outside Xinzhuang Elementary School together today! We are thankful for the amazing staff and parent volunteers at Xinzhuang for planning a special activity for our summer camp.
