Tiffany and Penny participated in the District Health Office (DHO)’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC) meeting in the morning and the polio campaign preparation in the afternoon.
We visited nine health centers for the polio campaign preparation and brought fuel, reports, micro plan, and payment for the social mobilizers who are in charge of the polio case and vaccination surveillance and promoting the upcoming polio campaign in the communities. Each health center manages approximately five to ten health posts, and there are social mobilizers at each health post. The DHO staff explained that the social mobilizers’ job takes a long time for the household surveillance because there are limited social mobilizers in a village. We took eight hours to visit nine health centers to provide the resources for the polio campaign. We also had a great time with the DHO staff playing Bao, a traditional mancala board game in East Africa, during our break time.
The rest of the team visited Joseph’s place before starting our day because they welcomed seven puppies! They were cuddling with each other and were too cute! We had to leave the puppies to visit the Chiputula Primary School but will be back soon for more puppies’ cuteness!
We met with the head teacher to report the questionnaire results and curriculum we begin teaching tomorrow. We got the head teacher’s approval for the curriculum and discussed teaching schedules with the teachers. After getting back to the dorm, we helped each other prepare the teaching materials for our first classes!
