Day 7: NTU Campus Tour | SHANTU Archive

Today we took our Healthy Helpers on another field trip! Our group met at National Taiwan University, where Teacher Lydia and Teacher Kimron guided our Xinzhuang students around NTU’s campus. First, we visited Fu Bell, an important historical site on NTU’s campus. We then took students to NTU’s Experimental Farm.

Staff members at NTU’s Experimental Farm led a DIY soap-making activity for our little friends. First, our campers cut fragments of soap into interesting shapes, including butterflies and stars. Campers placed soap fragments at the bottom of the soap mold. Staff members poured a soap mixture into the mold. After staff added the soap solution to our molds, we waited for the soap to solidify.

As our soap cooled, NTU’s Experimental Farm staff gave our Healthy Helpers a tour of the Experimental Farm. We visited a historic building and beautiful gardens with several large greenhouses. The guide introduced some farm tools Taiwanese people used 70 years ago, some herbs, and essential oils. After we returned from our tour, NTU’s Experimental Farm staff gave a lecture on the components of soap and correct handwashing techniques. We ended our field trip by sharing lunch together at the Experimental Farm. Both our Healthy Helpers and SHANTU members enjoyed this engaging, educational day.
