Our MOE friends visited today to look at the progress of this exciting project, and the children presented their findings and experiences of the past few weeks in English. Their presentations all agreed on the fact that they learned a lot about farming and they think it is hard work. Also, the children were happy that they made new foreign friends and could practice their English with the members of the WASH team. Everyone that participated got a beautiful certificate and a present for their hard work. Members of other SHANTU teams joined as well today and together we harvested the sweet potato leaves that have been growing so fast. The parents of the PTA team organized a very nice cooking class, where the children and SHANTU team members made pizzas with sweet potato leaves, and other healthy snacks were provided. It was a great success; the pizzas were very tasty!
To end the day, the children got to meet Joseph Wu, the project leader in Malawi; they could ask him questions and learn more about Malawi. This project will hopefully set up a future collaboration between schools in Taiwan and Malawi, to learn from each other and help each other through best practices. Through collaboration, evaluations and sharing experiences, this project can contribute to increased nutrition of children and a stronger relation between humans and their natural environment for future generations.
